In the wake of the January 2015 Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack, world leaders marched in solidarity through the streets of Paris. This photo, published on front page of the Orthodox Israeli paper HaMevaser shows male world leaders linking arms along the front-line of the march.
Female leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, and President of Switzerland Simonetta Sommaruga appeared in the original photo. HaMevaser newspaper cropped and digitally removed these female leaders from the image published on their front page.
Mediaite, a news and opinion blog, was quick to point out the discrepancies in a post the next day, placing the original photograph and the newspaper’s front page side by side. They called the manipulation “pretty sloppy,” citing the discoloration of some men’s faces, a mysterious glove and an unidentifiable blur as evidence.
